Justice Among Nations: On the Moral Basis of Power and Peace by Thomas L. Pangle,
In the post-Cold War era, we have lost the clarity that once characterized our vision of international conflict. Foreign affairs are no longer defined solely by the ideological battles fought between capitalism basis morality and communism or by the competition between two great nuclear superpowers. That oversimplified view has been replaced by an increasing awareness of the moral basis morality and political complexity surrounding international relations. To help us deal with this new reality, Thomas Pangle basis morality and Peter Ahrensdorf provide a critical introduction to the most important conceptions of international justice, spanning 2,500 years of intellectual history from Thucydides basis morality and Plato to Morgenthau basis morality and Waltz. Their study shows how older traditions of political philosophy remain relevant to current debates in international relations, basis morality and how political thinkers through the centuries can help us deepen our understanding of today's stalemate between realism basis morality and idealism. Pangle basis morality and Ahrensdorf guide the reader through a sequence of theoretical frameworks for understanding the moral basis of international relations: the cosmopolitan vision of the classical philosophers, the "just war" teachings of medieval theologians, the revolutionary realism of Machiavelli, the Enlightenment idealism of Kant, basis morality and the neo-realism of twentieth-century theorists. They clarify the core of each philosopher's conceptions of international relations, examine the appeal of each position, basis morality and bring these alternatives into mutually illuminating juxtaposition. The authors clearly show that appreciating the fundamental questions pursued by these philosophers can help us avoid dogmatism, abstraction, or over-simplification when consideringthe moral character of international relations.

Praise and Blame: Moral Realism and Its Application by Daniel N. Robinson,

Praise and Blame: Moral Realism and Its Application by Daniel N. Robinson,
How should a prize be awarded after a horse race? Should it go to the best rider, the best person, or the one who finishes first? To what extent are bystanders blameworthy when they do nothing to prevent harm? Are there any objective standards of moral responsibility with which to address such perennial questions? In this fluidly written basis morality and lively book, Daniel Robinson takes on the prodigious task of setting forth the contours of praise basis morality and blame. He does so by mounting an important basis morality and provocative new defense of a radical theory of moral realism basis morality and offering a critical appraisal of prevailing alternatives such as determinism basis morality and behaviorism basis morality and of their conceptual shortcomings. The version of moral realism that arises from Robinson's penetrating inquiry--an inquiry steeped in Aristotelian ethics but deeply informed by modern scientific knowledge of human cognition--is independent of cognition basis morality and emotion. At the same time, Robinson carefully explores how such human attributes succeed or fail in comprehending real moral properties. Through brilliant analyses of constitutional basis morality and moral luck, of biosocial basis morality and genetic versions of psychological determinism, basis morality and of relativistic-anthropological accounts of variations in moral precepts, he concludes that none of these conceptions accounts either for the nature of moral properties or the basis upon which they could be known. Ultimately, the theory that Robinson develops preserves moral properties even while acknowledging the conditions that undermine the powers of human will.
